School was not the best experience for a werewolf, with our heightened senses it was hard work to tune out the chatter and smells. I have gone to school before and had good grades and stuff but it was all in the community we lived in. And the school had only werewolves , which meant no ear piercing bells to note the ending of a period and no humans brushing up on our body. When I arrived in the morning I was greeted by the receptionist , “Morning Mr. Reynolds, I hope you have a pleasant day!” She was one enthusiastic mortal. But human teenagers were another nuisance, the minute I came through the receptionist’s desk the rumours started, I knew that I stood out from the mortals in this school. Shifters normally looked more “attractive” than mortals. Thus the reason for the gossip, it sickened me of how mortals tend to judge a book by its cover. And the girls were another problem, I felt sorry for their fruitless attempts in trying to get my attention. My wolf was increasingly getting annoyed, we both knew that my attraction was reserved to my mate only.

I caught up pretty quickly in my work , but the biology teacher, “Mr. James ” seemed to doubt my education level. He told me to go to the library where I will meet my student tutor. I sighed , whoever I was supposed to meet looked like they were late. I went through the request section because one of the other teachers had told me that there were some books they would request for me to study when suddenly a small body bumped into my back. As if on instinct I reached out to steady the person , reminding myself to apologise for what had happened only to wrap my arm around a slender body and stare into the palest grey eyes I have ever seen. “mate!!!” my wolf screamed inside my head. But I had to calm myself down, “are you okay?” I asked. She seemed to be frozen in place, so I gently helped her to straighten herself. “I am alright” she whispers nervously , “you must be the new student? I haven’t seen you before” she questions knowingly , in a small school like this it isn’t a big surprise that she noticed me so soon. I nod , “I am, my name is Nathaniel Reynolds.” I make sure to give a slight bow to respect my mate and princess. She smiles , she has a beautiful smile and it lights up her whole face. “I am Evangeline Parker, and I will be your tutor for the rest of the term.” I nod , “I guess I have to catch up on my work?” It was the only thing I could come up with other than wrap my arms around her and make sure she’s safe. “Would you like to sit with my friends? We are finishing off our work and I can help you with yours.” she questioned , she seemed unsure like would reject her , I felt a pang of hurt in my chest thinking about it and Evangeline seemed to feel it too , she rubbed her hand just above her chest. But she shook her head and walked towards the table where two mortals were sitting. I shouldn’t be surprised , she seemed to blend in with them but her beauty and smell are inhuman. The weird thing is I only felt the mate bond because my wolf felt it , but there seemed power around her like a shield. I couldn’t quite put my finger in it. But my wolf did not like it , he was screaming that my mate wasn’t safe. “What am I supposed to do?” I questioned him, “get it off her!!!” he was going wild in my head. I knew I was going to lose control and transform right here. “Excuse me, I got to go , we’ll continue this tomorrow.” They looked like they wanted to argue but I was gone before they could open their mouths.

I rushed out of the school and over the fence, werewolves have incredible strength and agility. The minute I was out of prying eyes I shifted, giving my wolf control over me. We ran through the forest sniffing around and getting used to the area close to Evangeline’s home. I tried to identify any wolf markings , usually a pack would mark its territory but I did not sense any close by so my wolf marked our territory here so that no other hunter would dare to step into this land.
It was getting dark by the time I finished the sun had set and the crickets were chirping. I could sense small animals rustling through the forest floor trying to reach the safety of their burrows. I made my way towards Evangeline’s house , the light’s were on and my sensitive ears could pick out voices from inside.
She was safe for now, but my wolf seemed to think that there was something on her, maybe he was referring to the magical shield but to figure it out I had to see her in person. But right now I knew that they might be having dinner so I decided to wait until her parents fell asleep and get it done. If my wolf senses it as a danger then he must be right , because he is more sensitive to magic than I am. But where did it come from? I had to figure it out.
Lost in thought I made my way back to my apartment, I was born deep tired. What I needed was a warm bath. Soon as I sank into the warm water my tensed muscles relaxed and a throbbing headache started to come. I really was in stress , I would give anything right now to see my parents and talk to them. I know my mother would run her fingers through the scalp and soothe me telling me that everything would be alright. And my father would have patiently listened to all the problems that I have faced so far and given me some wise words and encouragement. He would have said that he was proud of me. Thinking about my parents only made my loneliness increase tenfold.
