Various memories swirl in her mind, voices and faces of different people, accidents and screams, it was too much to bear that she finally woke up. The room was pindrop silent, the pungent smell of blood coated the air, but her heightened senses immediately recognised that she had company in her room. Two people, she realised by their movement, silently got up making sure they were unaware of her presens. They were two young teenage boys, just by smelling them she knew that they were armed to their bones. The older one was blonde and the other one had crispy ebony hair, their bodies were packed with soft muscles but they did not quite smell human. “What were they doing here?” She desperately needed answers, she moved silently crouching down to her hunting stans, letting out a warning growl just before attacking them as they turned.Read Full Chapter
Zaiden only had a few seconds before he heard a snarl ripple behind them before they were attacked, but the movements were so familiar he looked up at his attacker and all the colour drained out of his face. “Amy” he whispered looking up at her crimson eyes which were glaring at him. “Who are you? And what do you want?” she hissed at him. He felt a pang in his heart, he realised that she did not recognise them, he also noticed Ender’s wide eyes behind her, he took a deep breath, “we won’t hurt you, we are friends and have come to get you out of here.” He only hoped that she could feel his love and trust through his words as he explained to her about who they were and what had happened, why they were here.
After listening to their story her crimson eyes watched them both calculatingly for a few minutes, then she let him go, “right, let’s get out of here.” She walked to the cupboard which was stocked with weapons and added them new loaded guns, “great!” Ender nodded with nervous energy radiating him, they got dressed, their bodies tensed, “on three, one, two, three!” They silently counted and opened the door. The path leading to the lab was pin drop silent, there was not a soul in sight, all the walking dead that were in the corridor before had disappeared. They readied their weapons and walked softly until they came to a different corridor, the glasses on either side were covered in mist, the temperature suddenly dropped as cold air brushed against their skin. Amelia’s sensitive ears detected a soft bubbling sound coming through the glass, her eyes widened as she stared through it. A sharp inhale behind her confirmed that she was not dreaming, the labs on either side of the corridor were filled with water, Zaiden cursed behind her. There were people trapped inside the water. They seemed to be sleeping at first but then they were all staring at them, having scented their presence. She let out a warning growl, as they started to hit against the glass trying to break through it. She exchanged a panicked glance with the two boys and they ran in the opposite direction. “Wait, we have to get the anti virus.” Ender reminded them, Amelia simply nodded and went to find the labs in which Mr. Collins did experiments on her.
They entered through the lab doors, it was very quiet, there was shattered glass everywhere the floor was painted in crimson, Amelia’s lips curled, her fangs extending to the smell of blood and eyes darkening with hunger. Tight fingers grasped her hand, silently willing her to stay down, they soon realised that the way they came inside was blocked, “ we have to go to the underground laboratory, i’m sure that’s where the Anti- Virus is,” Zaiden whispered, afraid of attracting attention to themselves. They moved swiftly through the room, “I think I have an idea that could get us outta here,” Ender whispered with a stupid grin in his face, when he met their questioning stares he only had to point on top of their own heads. Soon the three of them were crawling through the air vents, crouched and heated.
They went through the pipes for a few minutes before they heard a scratching sound coming from the opposite direction. Everyone froze, “what was that?,” Amelia whispered, her heart starting to thump beneath her ribs, a very familiar chill creeped through her bones sending shivers down her spine. The scratching sounds got closer when there was a sudden squeak between them, “oh it’s just a rat!” Ender burst out laughing, but their sudden joy was short lived as the rat hissed and pounced on him, he screamed, that’s when Amelia realised that the virus did not just infect people but animals that were in the lab as well. She also knew that if the rat bit him, he would get infected. She had seen how the virus works, the infected ones were filled with craving for bloodlust. Without thinking twice she slipped her hand in between Ender and the rabid creature’s fangs. The sharp canines sank into her granite skin, she was immediately overcome by her bloodlust. She had to hunt, her eyes turned crimson in colour and venom filled her mouth, filling her veins through the process. But as if knowing her what her next actions would be Zaiden squeezed her hand which snapped her out of it, “I am sorry ”, she looked away from them, shame filling her. “It’s okay, everyone loses control”, Ender whispered. As they continued to crawl.
They arrived at a ventilation opening, the metallic smell of blood coated the air, “oh god!” Ender cursed under his breath, the pungent smell of rotting flesh coated the air. Creeping down they could see the floor below them was crowded with zombies, they were pale corpses with bodies covered in wounds that were in different stages of decay. They were crawling over each other, all with only one goal in mind; food!. “We should get out of here faster! Zaiden commanded. They kept crawling for god knows how many minutes or hours until they finally came to another ventilation opening that was at the end of the tube, “I think this opens to the labs,” Amy whispered to the boys. They opened it, without feeling the presence of any of the undead, they crept into the lab.
The temperature in the lab was put to an unbearable level, the cold froze their fingertips and icicles formed at the end of their laches. “Find it fast!”, they divided through the messy labs searching for the antivirus. Ender looked through the various refrigerators, going through every colour full tube, Zaiden went through the cupboards and tables, until they came up to a wall covered with sheets and sheets of paper, sketched with plans. “Guys, come see this,” the three of them were going through the plans when they heard a moan from behind them, “ I thought there was no one in this room”, he tended to switch off the safety switch in his revolver, suddenly Amelia screamed, “No! Don’t shoot”, throwing herself in front of a familiar yet different older figure who looked traumatised to see them. “Children?” Dr. Henrik looked puzzled at them.
